Imports Under License
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day. The period in respect of which imports may be made under licenses issued for the second licensing period expires on June 30, but a statement on the point was made last night by the Minister for Customs (Mr Nash). The licenses were originally issued for the period July-December, 1939, but were subsequently made valid until June. In view of uncertainty attaching to the date of departure of ships from the United Kingdom and the date of their arrival in England under existing conditions, importers have been in some doubt as to their position in arranging for the. shipment of goods coverel by second period licenses because cf the possibility of their not arriving until after June 30. Representations have been made to Mr Nash, who said last night that it had been decided to permit the entry under- second period licenses of goods shipped on vessels scheduled to leave the United Kingdom not later than May 29. Should it happen that the departure of vessels was delayed beyond the scheduled date, and they arrived after June 30, goods would, nevertheless, be .admitted.
