War Office Denies Armistice Report

(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 3. The War Office this morning issued the following statement: “There is no foundation for statements that the Norwegian Commander-in-Chief was not informed of the Allies’ decision to evacuate the Trondheim area,. or that he is negotiating for an armistice. The Norwegian Commander-in-Chief, with his staff, embarked on a British warship on the night of May 1-2. “The Commander-in-Chief has been conveyed to an undisclosed destination in Norway, and any Norwegian Order of the Day announcing negotiations for an armistice have obviously been made without his authority.” A mesage from Stockholm states that the Norwegian News Agency states that all British and French troops withdrawn from Namsos have been landed safely.
