Norway Determined To Resist
LONDON, April 11. The Norwegian Prime Minister (M. Nygaardsvold) has made a proclamation reaffirming Norway’s determination to resist the German invasion, and rejecting the German demand for recognition of the Norwegian Nazi Quisling’s puppet Government. The Prime Minister added that the King had refused to yield to a German demand, the acceptance of which would have transformed Norway into a vassal German State. The proclamation stated: “The Government appeals to the entire Norwegian people to assist its efforts to preserve Norway’s liberty and independence. New Future of Freedom. “The Government is convinced that the entire civilised world condemns Germany for her act of violence against a small people only wishing to live in peace. “The invaders can certainly carry out great destruction, but the Government is sure a new future of freedom will emerge for Norway. “Consequently, it calls on the entire people to continue the struggle to the end. Long live our Fatherland! Long live a free Norway!” King’s Statement. The proclamation was followed by a statement by King Haakon: “I fully adhere to the Government’s appeal, and I am convinced the whole of the people are with me in the decision taken.” The proclamation reveals that the German Government asked King Haakon to agree to a Norwegian Government enjoying Germany’s confidence and nominated by Hitler.
