Plans For Big Recruiting Rally Here Tomorrow
Tomorrow the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) will address meetings at Whangarei and Dargaville in the course of the Dominion-wide recruiting campaign. . The plane conveying the official party will leave New Plymouth tomorrow morning. Mr. Fraser- will be accompanied by the officer commanding the New Zealand Forces (Major-General J. E. Duigan), the Army Publicity Officer, and his private secretary. The plane will refuel at Hobsonville and, according to telephonic advice received by the Town Clerk (My. L. O. Hall), is due to arrive at Onerahi Aerodrome about 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Mr. Fraser and party will be met at the aerodrome by the Mayor of Whangarei (Mr. W. Jones), who is also chairman of the Whangarei District Recruiting Committee, Mr. J. G. Barclay, M.P.. and Captain ConyersBrown, of the Army Department. Dargaville in Afternoon.
Shortly afterwards, Mr. Fraser, accompanied by Major-General Duigan and the Mayor, in his capacity . of chairman of the Northland Patriotic Executive, will leave for Dargaville, where -a meeting will be addressed in the afternoon. Bomphlets from the plane which conveyed the official party will be dropped on Dargaville and, later, on Whangarei. As the Deputy-Prime Minister will not be visiting the Bay of Islands electorate in the course of his present campaign, the Mayor of Whangarei has extended to Mr. C. W. Boswell, M.P., and Mrs. Boswell an invitation to associate themselves with the recruiting, meeting at the Whangarei Town Hall. Big Parade. All Whangarei military units will fall in at the Drill Hall, Walton Street, at 7.15 p.m. The parade, which will be under the command of Lieut.-Col. D. T. Wood, will march via Cameron Street, Bank Street, to the War Memorial, round the Triangle and up Bank Street. The procession will be headed by four local members of H.M.S. Achilles, a complement and soldiers of the Second Echelo%of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force home on final leave.
The order of march will be: Motor cyclists. N.A.R. and N.A.M.R. National Military Reserve Class II (Veterans’ Guard). Municipal Band. Returned Soldiers.
Territorials. Pipe Band. High School Cadets. It. is expected that over 700 men will be on parade. Saluting Base.
The saluting base will be a special dais to be built in front of the Town Hall.
Associated with Major-General J. E. Duigan and the Deputy-Prime Minister at the saluting base will be the Mayor and Mr, Barclay. Mr. Fraser will be piped from the saluting base into the Town Hall. From 7.30 .to 8 p.m. the Whangarei Municipal Orchestra will provide'selections, while after welcoming speeches and presentations to the Achilles men, there will be community singing, led by Mr. R. G. Hosking. Then will corhe addresses by MajorGeneral Duigan and finally by the Acting-Prime Minister. . :
