The present return is the lowest January figure since 1937. Only two more monthly returns are needed to complete the financial year, which ends on March 31, Figures for the ten months of the current period total £3,031,898, compared with £3,002,919 for the same period in 1938-39, when the full year’s return reached the record total of £3,572,110.
