Byrd 1300 Miles From South Pole

NEW YORK. February 24. A radio message from Rear-Admiral Byrd’s ship, the Bear of Oakland, in the Antarctic, says she has reached 37 miles south of the 70th parallel, and 1300 miles from the South Pole. This is the furthest south the Americans have reached. The expedition’s supply ship the North Star has left Valparaiso, and is returning to the Antarctic.
