Mangonui Road Works

Since last meeting, stated the engineer (Mr Ralph Tome) in his report to the Mangonui County Council, better progress has been made with road works, although metalling was delayed by weather conditions. Contracts for metalling and surfacing the main highways were well in hand. A new quarry was being opened up at Epikauri on Ritchie’s property. This quarry appeared to be very promising and the quality of the metal was firstclass. T.t was one mile from the Herekino Road and would be a very valuable source of supply for the Herekino district. All clips brought down by the January floods had been removed and culverts opened up. Repair works and restoration of flood damage had been carried out on riding roads as the grader plant and men were available. Formation work on Bell’s road had been completed and culverts proviiMl in Wireless Road.’ Slips on Duncan’s road had been cut back, but further work by the grader was necessary. The caterpillar 10 grader was at work on the Kohumaru road and would be available for maintenance work on the riding roads in Oruru and Mangonui districts.
