Motorists Penalised For Delighted Cars
Parking without lights in what Mr R. K. Trimmer described as the most secluded street in Whangarei, cost Edward Erough Glanville 10/- and costs in the Whangarei Court this morning. Glanville, for whom Mr Trimmer appeared, admitted leaving a stationary car in Huapai Street without lights. Three other cars had been left without lights in the same street on the* same night, said Mr Trimmer, and objection was taken to one being chosen for prosecution. I Test Cases. Mr J. F. S. Briggs, who appeared for the traffic inspector (Mr J. H. Ashton) said that the case was in the nature of a test case and the other prosecutions would follow. While his client had no desire to see the other offenders prosecuted, Mr Trimmer pointed out that no summons for the offences had been served for the last court day nor for the present hearing, Mr Briggs replying that other charges would be brought later. After hearing evidence by the inspector. Mr Trimmer pleaded guilty to | a charge brought against Alfred Batty iof parking without lights in Walton ! Street. | “These cases have been brought as a warning but I will not inflict a penalty in this case as I will allow a solicitor’s fee to the complainant,” said the magistrate in convicting Batty and ordering him to pay court costs and solicitor's fee of £1 1/-. Failure to give way to right hand traffic cost Donald Walter Rowsell £2 and costs, while Walter Young, who was stated by Mr Trimmer to’ have (' suffered injuries in an accident, was ccnvicted and ordered to pay costs on '' a charge of failing to carry a certificate of fitness. Exceeding the speed limit of SO miles per hour, resulted in Thomas Aubrey Cuthbert being fined £2 and costs, while Alan Charles Ewenson, who was similarly charged, was fined £1 and? costs*
