Fine Double Bill At Plaza Theatre

Amusements

One of the most delightful comedies English studios have produced for-a long period is “The Gang’s All Here,” which opened at the Plaza Theatre last evening as one of the two features on the new programme. American gangster films and amateur detectives are “taken for a ride” in this exhilarating story, with Jack Buchanan and Googie Withers, burlesquing “Mr and Mrs Thin Man” (William Powell and Myrna Loy). Aided by Edward Everett Horton, Buchanan, an insurance detective, turned novelist, resumes activities following the theft of a famous collection of jewels, and his amazing detective work is only rivalled by the effectiveness of his methods, and the humour of his escapades. It is grand fun all the way through, with Buchanan relying on his comedy without song or dance. A fine performance is given by Akim Tanpiroff in “The Magnificent Fraud,” the second picture. A brilliant actor, trapped after seven years of evading the consequences of his crime, Tamiroff is given the chance of replacing an assassinated dictator until an important document is signed. In his acting prior to his arrest, Tamiroff gives a brilliant characterisation as Napoleon, and his ultimate performance in an exciting story provides outstanding entertainment
