“Dummy” Joke Brings Death To Veteran

WELLINGTON, This Day. At an inquest yesterday concerning the death of Mr Thomas Egan, aged 50, a war pensioner, a verdict that death was due to meningitis following an injury to the eye was returned. The injury was received when a dispute took place between deceased and Daniel John Mclntyre. Detective Hogan, who conducted the inquest, said Mclntyre was charged with manslaughter, but the Grand Jury had returned a “no bill.” Evidence was that trouble arose from a practical joke interrupted bjp Mclntyre when he found Egan making a dummy to put in Mclntyre’s bed. Mclntyre pushed Egan away, later hitting him in the face.
