Weaker Tendency On Stock Exchange
[Special to “Northern Advocate "] AUCKLAND, This Day. j Reflecting the weaker tendency, I Australian shares values were irregular on the Auckland Stock Exchange today. * ; The effect was noticeable in all the | Australian leaders, but Dominion sei curities were compai-atively immune. In a sharp reaction from their peak i of £1 17/3 at the beginning of the week,' Mt. Lyells fell back to buyers at £1 14/- and' sellers at £1 15/6, at the morning call. Broken Hill Proprietaries were transferred 6d below yesterday’s price. Mt. Morgans and Electrolytic Zincs had reduced quotations, and almost generally buyers of Australians moved back or dropped out. Among the New Zealand shares marked down were Auckland Gas,
which were transferred 2d lower. Most Dominion issues maintained their recent improvement, but exceptions were Breweries, Wilsons Cement and Woolworths (N.Z.). The two Fiji goldmining issues, Emperor and Lolama, which had been particularly strong lately, had wide limits, with holders willing to accept less than recent ruling values. Sales completed at the noon call today were: —National Bank, £2 6/, Bank of New Zealand. £2 1/6; Goldsbrough Mort, £1 9/1$; Auckland Gas, 12/-; G. J. Coles, £4 1/-; Northern Roller Milling, 18/9; stock, 38-41. 3» per cent., £101; stock, 52-55, 4 per cent., £lOl 15/-; Auckland Harbour Board. 10/3/58, 3i per cent, £96.
