Govt. To Abandon Hide Control
(..Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. The early abandonment of the Government’s State purchase plan for the control of the market in hides is expected by firms engaged in the trade, as a result of other arrangements having been proposed to safeguard the requirements of the Domititon’s tanning industry. Appraisers appointed under the State scheme are reported to have returned to their former duties, and operators have been authorised to supply local tanners with hides at prices based on those ruling on September 1 last, plus 25 per cent. In the meantime exporters are conferring on details of a formulae for trading that it is hoped will satisfy the Government.
