N.A. Presbytery Meets
The North Auckland Presbytery held its quarterly meeting in the Whangarei Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, February 14. Tire Moderator (Rev. J. D. McFarlane) presided. A cordial welcome was extended to Revs. D. R. Allen (Hikurangi) and J. A. Preston (Ruawai), on taking their scats for the first time. The representative elders for the ensuing year were also welcomed. * Mr G. A. Bruce was appointed representative elder for Waipu at the Centennial General Assembly ui Wellington The Presbytery received notice of the transfer of Rev. J. A. Scarrow from Kaitaia to Johnsonville. The appointments of Rev. A. Wilde to Kaitaia, and Mr Forth to Whakapara wove approved. » The home missionaries from the various stations presented the annual reports of their work. These revealed something of the progress and influence of the church in the North. Presbytery congratulated the home missionaries on their successful year, and extended its thanks and appreciation for the services rendered, both to the missionaries and to their wives. Rev. D. R. Allen was appointed statistics compiler for the year. Dr. C. B. Gilberd was appointed medical practitioner for the beneficiary fund. A call to Rev. L. K. Brown, of Titoki, to Hunterville, was received from the Wanganui Presbytery. Rev. W. Elliott prosecuted the call on behalf of the Hunterville congregation and stated that it was both hearty and unanimous. Mr Brown intimated his acceptance of the call, and it was placed in his ! hands. Presbytery decided to sever the pastoral tie as from the date of Mr Brown’s induction to Hunterville, viz., February 29. Presbytery extended its thanks and appreciation to Mr Brown for the service given to the Titoki congregation and the Presbytery, and rejoiced in this call to a wider sphere of service. An application v/as received from Kaurihohore board of managers for permission to use a portion of the Centennial Thanksgiving Funds to renovate its church buildings, as follows: Kaurihohore, £9O; Kamo, £3O; Hikurangi, £43. Presbytery decided to forward a recommendation to the Thanksgiving Executive Committee. Rev. E. A. Way presented the Youth Report and notified Presbytery that two Bible Class camps would be held at Easter, one on Whangarei harbour, and the other at Chase’s Gorge, Dargaville. A Sunday School teachei's’ rally is to be held at Mangapai on April 6. Rev. W. Elliott addressed Presbytery on mission finances, and it was decided to request session clerks that every effort be made to reach the budget assessments this year. It was also decided to set the month of March apart as a month of selfdenial for missions. Special missionary thanksgiving services are’ to be held in all churches on Sunday, March 31. Ministers will arrange an exchange of pulpits where this is possible. '
