P. And T. Officers Hear War Call
IPer Press Association. Copyright.! DUNEDIN. This Day.
The Postmaster-General in an interview yesterday said that officers of the Post and Telegraph Department had responded well to the call for volunteers for active service.
Since the outbreak of war, said Mr. Jones, there had been 755 enlistments from within the service, and today the department had 524 officers serving with the forces, while there was a further 176 awaiting orders to proceed to camp. “With few exceptions,” Mr. Jones added, “no restrictions have been placed on the release of officers of 21 years of age and over who have volunteered for service overseas.
“Every effort is being made to arrange the staffing of the Department so as to provide for the maximum number possible being released in the future as the need continues.”
