General Duigan Praises Maoris

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] PALMERSTON NORTH. This Day. Major-General J. E. Duigan, Chief-of-Staff, inspected the Maori Battalion yesterday. He said: “I can tell you this, that as a man who has had a very long experience in the army, if I had been informed that in such a short time you could have reached such a high standard in your drills and in your movements I would not have credited it. “It is a great credit to your officers that they have brought the battalion along so rapidly. “I know that your heart is in your work, and this standard has been reached in such a brief time because of your keenness and enthusiasm to learn and digest everything that you have to do. “I feel quite sure you will be a credit to your officers, a credit to New Zealand and a credit to the Maori race.”
