Belisha’s Writings Censored

i Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 19. Mr R. T. H. Fletcher (LabourNunenton) and Mr G. Mander (Lib-eral-Wolverhampton) are raising in Parliament the question of the censoring of an article by Mr Leslie Hore Belisha, former War Minister, in the “News of the World” of last Sunday, in which at two points where he was appealing for immediate and substantial armed support for Finland, were insertions (Here 24 lines omitted; here 20 lines omitted). This is the first time an English newspaper has indicated the censor’s deletions. Mr Fletcher says the question at issue is whether the article was censored because it contained facts valuable to the _ enemy or contrary to the policy of the Government. “If Mr Hore Belisha was censored because his views were inconvenient, we were confronted with the first principles of totalitarianism,” he contends.
