No Quarterly Radio Licenses In Future

[Per Press Association. Copyright ] DUNEDIN, This Day. The Postmaster-General, the Hon F. Jones, announces the introduction from March 1 of a new system of licensing radio receiving sets, the main change being that all licenses will be for either six or 12 months at the existing rates at 12/6 a half-year and 25/ a year. Explaining the necessity for discontinuing the issue of quarterly licenses, Mr Jones stated that there were now 335,000 licensed sets in the liominion, and the high proportion of quarterly licenses made the system so unwieldy that it was necessary to relieve the post office staff. Other difficulties due to the war had intensified the difficulties of the staff and the only remedy was the elimination of the shorter period together with a simpler issuing system. The Minister stated in conclusion that neither Australia or Britain issued licenses for less than a year.
