Good Conditions For Saturday's Sailing
There was a big field for the A class yacht race from the Town Wharf to Taurikura at the week-end. Starters were the Waiale, Meleta, Wairangi, Ngaire, Scud, Sunola and Kotiro. Competitors got away to a good start, most crossing the line together. At Onerahi the Waiale was leading, followed by Koiro, Wairangi, Scud, Meleta and Ngaire and Sunola.
Waiale First Home.
Those positions held all the way and the Waiale was first boat home, with the Kotiro, minutes behind, second. Two and a half minutes separated the Wairangi, finishing in third place. After five minutes the Scud, Ngaire and Melita crossed the line within a half second of each other. The corrected times for the A class placed Scud 1 and Waiale 2. In the B class only two boats faced the starter. The Sceptre held the lead all the way and completed the course with a good deal to spare from the Macushla. Sailing conditions were good with a fresh breeze from the south-west.
