Services Make Notable Recovery

Beginning the day with three wickets down for 27 against their opponents’ 210, Services capitulated quickly for 65, Dunn taking three wickets in his first over and finishing with six for 29 off seven overs. Batten, who had been undefeated, kept the pads on when services followed on and, with Menzies, hoisted 30 before Fraser swung one from well outside the off stump into the wicket. While wickets fell at the other end, Menzies kept an admirable defence, scoring most of his runs with nice placements to leg. He was fifth out at 96, having stayed H hours. Hore then took on his mantle, while Bob White, whose first shot went like a bullet through the ’keeper’s hands to the fence, hit with terrific power. One of his three sixers landed well in' the direction of Kioreroa. His gay career was terminated by an extraordinary catch by Fraser, who, running near the boundary, turned and looked into the sun, to take a ball which was performing aerobatics. The innings, which had produced batsmanship of a high order, terminated half an hour before stumps. With 52 to get, Old Boys-Nomads lost both the opening pair in the first over, Madden being bowled in attempting a defensive shot. However, a six and a four to Dunn started things going. Then Howell, judiciously forcing the pace, and Auld, hitting everything with great power, got the necessary runs. Auld finished with 4-6-6 off Pow-' er. OLD BOYS-NOMADS.
