Ice-Floes Sink Ship In Amsterdam Harbour

(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON. February 8. A message from Amsterdam says the ice-floes sank a cargo ship and damaged five others, which are likely to sink. Cables in the harbour are oroken, and quays are flooded. Cranes also are damaged. The ice near the German frontier. where 200 ships are held up, crushed a collier, which motor pumps are keeping afloat. A message from Oslo says the increasing ice formations on the south coast threaten shipping. Bitter weather, a shortage of fuel and of electricity have made idle 400 ships, closed schools and restricted church services. There is two months’ fuel available, but the loss of 33 colliers in wartime and the severe weather are hampering shipment.
