Two Exciting Films At Plaza Theatre
Amusements
The excitement of life behind the scenes in the entertainment world and the thrills of combating the .activities of diamond smugglers are the subject of the plots of the two films which comprise the Plaza Theatre’s new programme. The first film, “Star of. the Circus,” is a story of love and drama against a background of vaudeville items which are in themselves an entertainment. An unknown tight-wire walker (John Clements) is presented by the leader of this profession with his identity but the newcomer is found to be an imposter when he goes on the same bill as a magician (Otto Kruger) and a dancer (Gertrude Michael) who have known the great Truxa before. Death-defying feats on the tightwire high above the heads of the audience while the magician uses his mechanical magic to cause death bring the film to a thrilling climax. The second feature, “Society Smugglers,” gives an insight into the elaborate schemes evolved to smuggle diamonds from Europe to the United States. Preston Foster and Irene Hervey have the leading roles in an entertaining picture.
