Another State Housing Block For Whangarei

. Erection of a further 19 State houses in, Whangarei is to be proceeded with by the Government, and negotiations are under way for still further purchases. Adjacent to McLeod’s block at Mill and Cairnfield Roads, where 35 houses are completed, a further 17 homes, including two two-unit houses, are to be erected. For sites, the State Housing Department has acquired Mrs A. E. Main’s property, in Cairnfield Road. The Borough Council last night gave provisional approval to the subdivisional scheme, subject to all costs of street construction, sanitary and stormwater sewers and water reticulation being borne by the department. As a borough improvement, the council decided upon provision of a road connecting the Housing Department’s subdivision with Main’s Avenue. Negotiations are to be entered into with the owner of a lot facing Main’s Avenue with a view to acquiring the land for the purpose of the road connection. On another section in Otaika Road a two-unit house is to be built. When all these sections, already acquired by the Government, are ouiit upon, there will be nearly 100 State homes in Whangarei.
