Sub. Attacks Convoy, But Is Sunk

(Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, January 31. The first attack on a convoy made by a U-boat for a long time resulted yesterday in the destruction of the U-boat by the continued efforts of the naval and air forces escorting the convoy. The majority of the U-boat's crew were saved. This was announced by the Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain) in the course of a speech at a luncheon in London, at which many foreign diplomatic representatives were present, including the Ambassadors of France and Poland.
