Berlin’s Bold Claim
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON. January 31. The official news agency in Berlin, describing the air raids on British shipping, says that they were carried out in “Churchill weather—hail, snow, rain and fog, under which the British Empire thinks itself safe.” The agency adds that the raiders destroyed four patrol ships and 14 armed merchantmen in two days. One of the German raiders was shot down off Yarmouth by British fighters and another was disabled, says a London message.
