No Davis Cup Competition This Year

MELBOURNE, January 31. As no challenges for the Davis Cup had been received today by the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia the competition lapses for 1940, and Australia retains the cup. No challenges are expected for the duration of the war. The regulations require that challenges shall be received by the holding nation not later than January 31 in the year of play. The acting chairman (Mr H. A. Pitt) said at the annual conference of the Lawn Tennis Association today, that it was unthinkable that Australia would be challenged in the present international circumstances.
