Oil Fuel From Kauri Peat
MELBOURNE, January 30. Sucess is claimed by a Melbourne analytical chemist, Mr S. Rosse Trevor, in his experiments in producing fuel oil from New Zealand kauri peat. Mr Trevor claims that his experiments nave shown that 3D gallons of crude oi' can be obtained from a ion of l-auri peat a; a cost of under 2d a gallon. lie says if by-products of distillation are used, the cost of production is below the cost of or uie oil from any of the world’s bore wells. According to an analysis made by an assayer of the Victorian Mines Department, a sample of crude oil suplied from Mr Trevor’s plant contained 13 per cent, of light oil. Mr Trevor believes the New Zealand Government will interest itself in exploiting his process.
