To January 20, 24,155 men had enlisted for service overseas with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
This repreesnts an increase of 1259 on the total at January 13. After medical examination, recruits had up to January 20 been classified and dealt with as follows, corresponding figures for a week earlier being shown in parentheses: Fit, 16,134 (14,802). Temporarily unfit, 2542 (2489). Permanently unfit, 2657 (2561). In reserved occupations and therefore not available, 1532 (1457). Sent to camps, 11,937 (11,027). Balance available for posting to camps, 2354 (1960).
