Wool Boom Not Wanted by Banker
LONDON, January 29. Major-General Sir John H. Davidson, chairman of the Union Bank of Australia, speaking at the annual meeting, said he hoped wool control would not lead to over-high prices, resulting in a large carry-over, which would depress the market after control was relinquished, and would also prejudice the future of the market in neutral countries and stimulate the production of artificial fibres. Sir John said New Zealand had temporarily smoothed out its financial difficulties, and .although the war was likely to increase expenditure and imports, Britain was buying wool and dairy produce at enhanced prices
