Lines To Scotsman Who Enlisted
At a farewell at Kaitaia by the male members of the Scottish Society to Mr Duncan MacLennan, who has enlisted for active service, the following lines, adapted to the occasion by Mr Beckett, of Pukepoto, were sung to the» tune of “Duncan Gray”:

Ither dances too he taught Ha ha the teachin’ o't Weather, distance, set at nought Ha ha the teachin’ o’t. He was here week in week oot Working hard without a doot Pleased baith parents ’n weans a lot Ha ha the pleasin’ o’t.
Noo he’s gane tae dae his share Ha ha the daein’ o’t Guard cor freedom, lives an’ mail’ Ha ha the guardin’ o’t. We’ll some day nae doot hear tell Duncan teachin’ real well Teachin’ Huns tae dance tae hell ’ Ha ha the teachin’ o’t.
He’ll come back again some day Ha ha the cornin’ o’t Weel and hearty, just as gay Ha ha o’t. Back tae wife and wean an’ freens Back tae hamely, peacefu’ scenes Back tae prosperous ways an’ means Here’s tae the wishin’ o't.
