[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l HAMILTON, This Day.
Manawatu scored an outright win by nine wickets in the Hawke's Cup cricket match against Waikato, which was concluded at Seddon Park yesterday.
The cup, which is competed for by minor associations throughout New Zealand, was won by Waikato from Manawatu in 1938.
In reply to Waikato’s first innings score of 118, Manawatu compiled 168 runs.
With only the afternoon left to play, the home team tried to force the runs, but the steady attack of the Manawatu bowlers resulted in Waikato being dismissed for 70 runs. The visitors were left to get 21runs, and these were secured for the loss of one wicket.
A message from Sydney says advice has been received in Sydney that when an aeroplane crashed at Wnu yesterday, the pilot, Pt. Doyle, and two native passengers were killed.
