A Tribute

Here’s a clipping from the “Junior Dominion.” last Saturday.

Just goes to show that Northlanders did make a good impression on Wellingtonians:

“Following months and months of preparation, the visit of the party of 600 Northland children to the Exhibition in Wellington, sponsored by “The Dominion” at the. Wellington end and by the “Northern Advocate,” in Whangarei. has been brought to a successful conclusion and there was general regret yesterday afternoon when the special train bearing the party left Wellington on the return journey. It had been a tiring time for Kiwi and she fell just a little sad at parting from so many new friends. But modern travel eats up the miles and who knows but that she may walk in on Kupe and surprise him just as she did on a former occasion?

“Wellington people were charmed with the behaviour of the visitors and the thorough way in which they explored every nook and cranny at the Exhibited:, asking their leaders questions when some exhibit wanted explanation and obviously appreciating and enjoying everything around them.

“The Northland children will have the satisfaction of knowing that Wellington people thought them marvellously well behaved, neat, tidy and courteous to their leaders. There were stragglers in one or two parties, just as there always seems to be someone who missed a boat even when its saiJ*ng is delayed. “Kupe and his band of assistants appeared to have no trouble with their charges and the simple rules of behaviour which had been instilled into the

children before they left for Wellington bore abundant fruit and made the Centennial holiday happy for everyone.—Observer.
