Labour Organisations To Discuss Dominion’s War Effort

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”j AUCKLAND, This Day. At a meeting of the Labour Representation Committee last night, it was reported that a conference was to be held shortly of representatives of National Executives of the Labour Party and the Federation of Labour and Cabinet to consider questions dealing with the conduct of the war so far as New Zealand is concerned.

It is stated that it is anticipated the report will be brought down from this conference for adoption at the Easter Conference of the Labour Party and the federation. Also among matters that will probably be discussed at the conference is the conscription issue. No Action on Conscription Is,sue The Labour Representation Committee had before it last night a

letter from the Junior Labour League, requesting it to obtain assurances from the Government that conscription would not be introduced without a plebiscite of all people .within conscription age limits. After discussion, the executive’s recommendation that no action be taken was adopted, and an amendment urging the committee to

condemn' conscription was defeated. It was stated that a determined effort was made by a section of the delegates to carry the amendment.
