Reich Gains In Galicia For Aid To Reds
(Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK. January 25
GERMAN INFILTRATION INTO GALICIA IS ASSUMING THE PROPORTION OF AN OCCUPATION, SAYS THE PARIS CORRESPONDENT OF THE “NEW YORK TIMES."
With a common frontier established between Germany and Rumania, the Germans are assured* of an uninterrupted supply of oil and wheat if the Rumanians agree to sell, and there is the exerting pressure of the Germans if they disagree.
German gains as a result of negotiations still being carried on are summarised by the correspondent as follows:
(1) Russian assent to German exploitation of the Galician oilfields for 99 rears.
( 2; German exploitation of the railways, assuring the transport of oil and commerce from Rumania.
German Promises
(3) Concessions to Germany to work the Krivoirog manganese mines.
(4) A concession to exploit and organise other resources in Russia, with the right of transport over Russian territory.
Germany's promises are described as:
(1) An undertaking that Germany will intervene if Britain and France try to help Finland either directly or through Norway and Sweden.
(2) Germany will immediately send experts to organise Russian transport and arms production, and will even send military technicians.
Moscow Hesitating-
Latest reports are that the negotiations have not been concluded because Moscow is hesitating, but the Soviet has agreed to German control of the Galician railway, with a corridor 40 miles wide. The Moscow radio claimed that the Russian and German Governments have reached a full and complete understanding on foreign policies.
Demands Absolute Monopoly
Germany has sent a written demand to Rumania for an absolute monopoly of her oil production and exports, says the Zurich correspondent of "Lc Journal."
German troops are in Galicia to enforce this demand.
The newspaper, “Le Victoire,” says Germany is determined to have northern Rumania as well as the oil, and Russia is determined to grab southern Rumania, after which Hitler will be permitted to recommence his march to Istanbul.
The newspaper, “L’Ordre,” says Rumania is lost unless Britain, France and Turkey are able to break the ever-tightening bonds. Britain and France guaranteed Rumania against German aggression, but with Turkey they should guarantee her against Russian invasion.
