Hikurangi Bowling Club
Competitions under promotion of the Hikurangi Bowling Club are proceeding apace, the percentage fours being the most advanced. In the skips’ section, McNay leads the field with four wins.
Ward holds a commanding position in' the section for thirds, his total being six wins, whilst Cochrane, with five wins, heads the list in the section for No. 2 players, the leads’ section being shared by Burley and Tail, each with five wins.
Only one round has been completed in both the championship singles and the handicap pairs. Of the two greens, the old one appears to be in excellent order, and no doubt under dry conditons should satisfy the majority. The new green promises to develop into an excellent playing area by the time ihe club's annual tourney fails due next- Easter.
The sward of grass is fairly even, and with early topdressing should improve considerably.
Although with a spring sowing, results are never as good as that of autumn, there is every indication that next year both greens will be of first-class calibre.
For the Whangarei Bowling Club’s annual full-rink tourney, the Hikurangi Club has entered four teams, and will endeavour to annex the Campbell Cup once again. The teams entered will be skipped respectively by N. McNay, J. Stark. A. Steele, and R. Nesbitt,
