Finns Have, "Angel Of Mons"

(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, January 24. The Finnish troops who are beating back the Russians north of Lake Ladoga have their “Angel of -Mons.” Hundreds of soldiers declare that they have seen a large white figure of an angel with its arms outstretched protectively. The angel stands facing the Russian lines, says a Helsingfors message. It is officially stated in Helsingfors that bombs hit four hospitals on Tuesday and killed 19, including a doctor and seven nurses. A message from Rome says that the Helsingfors correspondent of “La Stampa” reports! that 30 British planes have arrived in Finland. Attack Smashed, A Finnish communique states that the Russian offensive has everywhere broken down. Six Russian aeroplanes were shot down. Finnish coastal batteries successfully bombarded land objectives, and the Russian base at Estonia was “satisfactorily raided.” Thirty Finnish’ aeroplanes, which attacked Kronstadt, returned after damaging warships, which are frozen in. The battleships Marat and Oktia-brskaya-Revolutia are being repaired at Kronstadt after being damaged earlier by Finnish batteries. Reds Bomb 10 Towns. The Russians bombed 10 towns. A direct hit on an air-raid shelter at Nurmes killed 19 persons. Aeroplanes machine-gunned people in the streets. Another Red Cross expedition of 30 ambulances is preparing to leave Sweden for Finland. The Indian Jute Mills’ Association is giving Finland 1,000,000 sandbars.
