Spiders Work In Arms Factory

Spiders are being used in a Royal Ordnance factory which makes telescopes used by the British army for the fire control of guns and tanks. Threads spun by the spiders are placed in the telescope to make a central focussing point, s'- „ The expert who handles the spiders' webs stated that the spiders, of the grey back variety, are found in the grounds of the factory. They are placed in boxes and “starved"’ for two days to ensure a fine thread, which is clear and not furred.

The cutting of the thread with a knife to make it even finer is carried out by the expert.
