More Heavy Rain In Whangarei

• Although only occasional showers were experienced in Whangarei yesterday they were heavy and, with intermittent rain continuing through the night, the fall during the 24 hours ending 9 a.m. today totalled .96in. Shortly after 10 a.m. today, rain again set in, some of the showers being exceptionally heavy. With continuance of the abnormally heavy rainfall, several main routes in Northland are likely to be blocked according to an A.A. report issued at 2 p.m. Flooding has again occurred at Fakaraka Junction, between Fakaraka and Ohaeawai, while early this afternoon water commenced to come over the Main North Highway at Hukerenui, threatening access to Kawakawa. Although at 2 p.m.. the main road to Dargaville was still clear, it was anticipated that with the heavy rain falling further North, flooding would occur at Taylor’s Flat late this afternoon. Swimmng- Carnival Off Owing to the wet weather, _ the Whangarei Swimming Club’s carnival, which was to have been hold tonight, will not take place. The club executive will decide at a special meeting tonight whether to hold the carnival tomorrow night or to concentrate on one big gala for Saturday, February 3, when a strongteam of swimmers from Mt.
