Franklin Zone Favours Conscription

t Special to “Northern Advocate ”] FUKEKOHE, This Day. A meeting of residents of the Franklin zone held last night carried a motion advocating the. immediate, introduction of conscription. The meeting was held to consider the invitation of the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) and the Auckland District Patriotic Council to undertake the organisation of a recruiting campaign. Cc-operation Pledged A resolution was proposed pledging Co-operation in every possible way in the recruiting campaign to secure at least 2000 more men in the Auckland provincial district to make up the quota required for the Third Echelon, and adding that it was the opinion of the meeting that this objective would, however, be best attained by the declaration of the Government that conscription would be immediately introduced. The resolution also expressed the view that conscription would enable the Dominion 'nest to serve the British Empire and its Allies in the successful prosecution of the war. The motion was carried by a large majority.

Session. —A message from London states that, in replying to a question in-Ihe House of Commons, the Prime Minister (Mr Chamberlain) said he was not aware that any desire for a further secret session existed, and he was not prepared to make arrangements for one.
