Mr. Robert J. Comrie, engineer in charge of the northern division of the Works Department of the Dunedin City Council, has been appointed Timaru borough engineer to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. T. O. Fox.
A message from Athens says the death has occurred of Prince Christopher of Greece, younger brother of prince Nicholas, and uncle of the Duchess of Kent. He was aged 52 years. He was a Major-General in the Greek Army, and aide-de-camp to King George 11. Mr. R. Gurr, of Whangarei, has received notification to go to Trentham next Tuesday for a test course, following which, selection will be made from candidates examined of those to go to Duntroon Military College, Australia, for training as officers. Mr. Gurr, a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gurr, of Kamo Road, is a former pupil of the Whangarei* High School which he represented at both football and cricket. As a footballer he is regarded as a three-quarter of great promise. Mr. W. T. Hornibrook, assistant traffic manager of the Railway Department, who has been visiting the north on departmental business, returned south by the express today. Mr. W. Stewart, former Member of Parliament for the Bay of Islands and of the Legislative Council, was a passenger lor the south by today’s express.
