Chamberlain Prefers Charity To Statue

(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 14. According to .a Lisbon Press message, results of a subscription taken up in September for the erection in Lisbon of ,a statue of Mr Chamberlain as a tribute to his efforts for peace, will, according to the wish of Mr Chamberlain, expressed through the British Ambassador, be applied to a public charity under the direction of the newspaper, “Diario de Noticias,” with the consent of the Portuguese Government. It has Been resolved to donate a portion of the money to the erection of a maternity hospital in Lisbon.
