Tremendous Jump In Strength Of Allied Armies
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON. January 12. There have been tremendous increases in strength in the Allied armies, according to two distinguished soldiers. Sir Charles Gwynn told the Australian Associated Press that £CC,O9O well-trained men had been added to Britain’s fighting strength since the outbreak of the war. Two hundred thousand militia men had completed their training before January and a second group was well advanced. An increasingly large number of training camps was operating. Maginot Line Extension General Duval, in an article in the Paris “Journal,” says he is convinced that Germany will not be able to dispose more divisions (han the Allies next spring. The Maginot Line has been prolonged westward to the North Sea and eastward almost to the Jura Mountains.
A German manoeuvre through Belgium or Switzerland would really mean only a German frontal attack on a more extended front.
