No. 7 Area Men Fill Other District Quotas

So well have the men of No. 7 Military Area responded to the appeal for fecruits for the First and, Second Echelons that enlistments have easily exceeded the total required by the quotas. Because other districts have . not achieved success with recruiting, 162 men, who normally would have formed the nucleus of the Third Echelon have now been called on to fill the Second Echelon quotas of other districts. Volunteers numbering 72 have been called up under this arrangement from Hawke’s Bay, 57 from Gisborne and 33 from Masterton. They will leave for camp on January 16.

Early Filling of Taranaki Quota Expected

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Taranaki’s contingent of 187 men who left today to go into camp with the Second Echelon is 37 short of the province’s quota, but, in addition, there are twelve men classed as fit who will leave next week and 40 recruits yet to be examined. The early filling of the quota is now expected.

T. C. Lowry, N.Z. Test Captain, Enlists

Mr T. C. Lowry, former New Zealand cricket captain and now solo selector for New Zealand, has enlisted for military service. He is a married man with three children. His wife is the daughter of Sir Andrew Russell,’ who Commanded the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

HAMILTON, This Day,

A further 27 volunteers for the Second Echelon came forward yesterday in the No. 4 (Hamilton) military area, bringing the enlistments since Saturday, to 183 men.
