Goebbels Makes An Admission
(Received -1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 11. Mr Lathrop Stoddard, well-known American author, exclusively interviewed th'e Nazi propaganda chief (Dr Goebbeis), for the North American Newspaper Alliance. The interview, aside from antiBritish fulminations and vaunts of German victory, such as one would expect, is perhaps notable for the admission it makes unconsciously.
Human Beings That Count
Dr. Goebbels opens with the angry remonstrance that it is high time 40,000,000 people stopped dictating to 80,000,000 people when they should have a cup of coffee. “It is human beings who count, not just material resources,” said Dr. Goebbels.
Under prodding by Mr Stoddard, who said “the British seem to be trying to make the world believe this struggle is between democracy and dictatorship,” Dr. Goebbels remarked significantly, “the more you examine the British war aims the more negative they appear. Nothing to Lose, All to Gain “Tile British admit they have nothing tangible to get out of this war, but they have a lot to lose. “We, on the contrary, have nothing to lose and everything to gain.” Dr. Goebbels, having thus admitted the Allied cause dofs not seek material aggrandisement, concluded the interview' with a lame denial that Germany is a dictatorship. “It is,” he averred, “rather political discipline forced on us by the pressure of circumstances.”
