Thrills, Laughs With Grade Allen at Plaza
Gracie Allen has never been more effective in her crazy dumbness than in “The Gracie Murder Case,” or of two principal features on the Plaza Theatre's new programme. In this film, which opened last evening and which will be presented again tonight, Miss Allen gives of her best in a performance which cannot fail to arouse even the most blase. Getting mixed up in two murders, she becomes as much of a headache to the police as she does to the famous private detective, Philo Vance (Warren William) as she pursues her own investigations and succeeds in 'clouding the issue. -
' It is hilarious entertainment with a good mystery story as a basis. The second feature, ‘‘Persons in Hiding/' is founded on the interpretation of the chief of the G-men (Mr J. Edgar Hoover) on the scenes behind the American crime wave.
A,small-time crook (J. Carrol Naisli) comes under the influence of an ambitious woman (Patricia Morrison), who makes him the most feared of the public enemies while she becomes the brains of the criminal organisation. The story, packed' with thrills, is cut of the rut of usual gangster films.
