Kaitaia T.B. Hutments

The Department of Health, writing to the Mangonui Hospital Board with regard to the proposed hutments for T.B. cases, stated that the hutments for the hospital only would be provided by. the department. It w.as realised, the letter stated, that' the board would have to provide staffing,

accommodation for the staff, food, beds, bedding, conveniences, etc. The secretary said he took it that with domiciling huts the department would provide the huts, but, the

families or relatives would be required to take care of the patients. The chairman: I understood when discussing the matter with Dr. Gilberd that the only expense the board would

have to meet would- be the staff. To have the hutments at the hospital

would mean too heavy a cost to the board.

Mr Hoskin: We would probably have to get three nurses from the Nurses’ Club and that would mean £IOOO a year in wages. Mr Michie moved and Mr Steed seconded, that the whole question of hutments be deferred till the chairman, secretary and superintendent could further discuss it with Dr. Gilberd.
