Dismissed.— lt is announced that 150 officials of the Secretariat of the League of Nations have been dismissed, making those dismissed since the outbreak of the war 220.

Reception. —The British submarine Ursula, which was reported last Monday to have torpedoed a heavilyarmed German cruiser, arrived at an English port to meet a triumphant reception. The crew was granted special leave.

Relations. —Several newspapers support a suggestion by the former Prime Minister (M. Pierre Flandin) that French diplomatic relations with Russia should be broken off. “Le Petit Journal” says: “The logic and interests of honest men demand a diplomatic rupture after Russia’s exclusion from the League for a crime against civilisation.

Typhus. —President Roosevelt has ordered two United States public health service experts, at present stationed in Europe, to go to Finland to direct the fight against typhus.

Donation.—Sheikh Sir Ali Bin Salim, a member of the family of the Sultan of Zanzibar, and well known for his interest in the Royal Navy, has given £2OO to buy Christmas presents for the children of naval men who have lost their lives in the present war.

Capture.— The German liner Cap Norte (13,615 tons), captured on October 13, arrived at a British port with a cargo of wheat, wool, skins, tobacco, coffee and horse flesh.

Tops.— Prices are tending upward on the Bradford tops market, and at the mills machinery is fully employed in all sections.

Attack. —Anti-aircraft guns fired on three unidentified foreign aeroplanes flying over Arnhem, says an Amsterdam message. It is reported that Dutch fighters engaged the planes which escaped in a smoke screen.
