“Angel” Seeks £2OOO From “Father” Divine
“Angel” Verinda Brown is claiming the return of £2OOO from “Father” Divine. In New York Supreme Court she said that she handed over the money in 1929. Before doing so, she attended a three-hour feast m “Father” Divine’s “heaven” in Harlem, the negro quarter. The menu was: Fried chicken, eight kinds of vegetables, cheese, apple pie, and ice cream. The money, in gold coin, was the life savings, “Angel” Verinda. Brown and her husband. “Father” Divine promised: to put it safely in the “heavenly treasury.” “Black Angel’s” Offer. “Angel” Verinda’s claim is for the sale of “Father” Divine’s holdings in New York State to reimburse bis followers. One of the followers is the negro aviator Hubert Julian, who styles himself “the Black Angel of Harlem.”
He offers to pay “Angel” Venecia himself.
