Surviving Waipu Pioneers
In a recent article we stated that one of the two surviving pioneers who came to Waipu from Nova Scotia in the 50 ! s had died.
A correspondent, signing himself “Waipu,” writes; “You have been misinformed, because the following are, or have been residents of Waipu: Mrs Barbara McKay, “The Braigh,” Waipu. Miss Mary Morrison, South Road, Waipu, Mrs Freer, Gisborne, who were passengers by the “Gertrude” and arrived at Auckland in 1856; Mrs Mary Durham, Mt. Albert. Auckland, a passenger in the “Highland Lass, ’ which arrived in Australia in 1852; Mrs Horn Morris. Auckland: Mr Gregor Me" Kenzie, One Tree Point.
