Ruakaka

An enjoyable evening was spent in the Ruakaka School on Thursday of last week, when Mr and Mrs Howard Knight spoke on their missionary work in Northern China.

Last Saturday, members and friends of the Mangapai district Presbyterian Church held their annual picnic on the domain at Ruakaka Beach. The weather w.as bright and warm. Lunch was enjoyed under the shady trees of the domain, and, ,as the tide was right out, games were afterwards played on the dry sand, while most of the young folks enjoyed a swim in the warm salt water. Visitors were present from Waiotira, Mangapai, Mata, and Maungakaramea. As yet there are no campers on the domain, but, with the breaking up of the schools, the influx will commence. Already all the cottages adjacent to the beach are booked up. The Electric Power Board’s employees are still at work in the district, and are busy at One Tree Point. Power lias been turned on as far as the bridge. Mrs Patterson, junr., from the south, is visiting Mr and Mrs Patterson, Marsden Point Road, over the Christmas holidays. Some good hauls of schnapper and trevalli have been obtained by Messrs. Hart and Nicholas with the aid of their new fishing boat.
