c Continue to lift and store bulbs $ as they ripen off.

Gladioli may be lifted as soon as leaf and stem turns yellow; but the conn should be left on until it falls off when touched. Cut the old stalks of delphiniums out near the ground, as they finish flowering, to make room for new growth. Continue to plant dahlias and chrysanthemums, also summer and autumn flowering .annuals. Dahlias, chrysanthemums, zinnias and others that grow too tall should have the centres cut out to encourage strong growth near the ground. Cosmos may be sown any time until the end of the month.

Stake and tie dahlias. Use raffia or other soft material.

Keep a look out for caterpillars. Spray with arsenate of lead. Remove spent blooms from all plants. It is often wise to pick the first buds from annuals. Much better results ,are secured if the plants are. well grown and bushy before they are allowed to flower. Flowering, cherries and other shrubs that are troubled by the pear slug should be sprayed with arsenate of lead. Remember that dahlias, zinnias, chrysanthemums, salvias and asters want a fairly rich soil for best results.
